Citizens in Action – A Memorable Assembly Week in Grade 3

Grade 3 Weekly Blog – Assembly Week: Citizens and Their Impact on Society

This week in Grade 3 was fully dedicated to our assembly, and the excitement could be felt throughout the classroom.

Over the past days, students worked with great commitment and enthusiasm to prepare their performances. They practiced their lines again and again, gathered the necessary accessories, supported one another during rehearsals, and gave thoughtful feedback to other groups. Many students helped their peers remember lines, suggested improvements, and encouraged each other to speak clearly and confidently. It was wonderful to see such strong teamwork and cooperation.

Today was the big day—and the assembly was a great success. The students can be very proud of themselves. Everything ran smoothly, and their hard work truly paid off.

The assembly focused on the central idea of our Unit of Inquiry: Citizens impact the societies in which they are part of. The children represented different professions, including the mayor, firefighter, police officer, teacher, scientist, and engineer. Through short role plays, they showed scenes from everyday life and demonstrated the important roles these citizens play in society. They also explored what life might look like if these roles did not exist, helping the audience reflect on responsibility, cooperation, and contribution.

A short video with clips of the students was shown to the audience, highlighting the message that children are also important members of society. The students clearly expressed ideas such as “I am a citizen” and shared their understanding of rights and responsibilities, which was a powerful and meaningful moment of the assembly.

Alongside our assembly preparations, we also continued our learning in other subject areas. In Mathematics, we completed our unit on fractions, bringing together our understanding of parts and wholes. In Language, we continued working with poems, focusing on rhyme words and exploring how language can be playful and expressive.

Overall, it was a very special and memorable week. We are incredibly proud of the students’ effort, confidence, and teamwork, and it was wonderful to see their learning come to life on stage.
