Grade 3 Weekly Reflection – Exploring “Sharing the Planet” 🌍

This week, Grade 3 started our brand-new Unit of Inquiry, “Sharing the Planet.” We began by observing and comparing two powerful images — one of a girl carrying water and another of a boy drinking clean water from a tap. The students showed wonderful thinking and communication skills as they discussed what they noticed and how these two pictures are connected to access to resources.

Following our reflections, the students wrote a diary entry from the girl’s point of view, imagining her daily life and feelings. They then shared their writing with the class, showing empathy and creativity. For the boy, their task was to research where our water actually comes from and to write a short report or explanation about it. These activities linked beautifully with our Language focus, as we are learning about text types—such as diary entries and reports—and how writers use them to express ideas and share information.

We also watched a short video to review the water cycle and revisited key vocabulary like evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and collection. The students were curious and engaged, using their research and inquiry skills to find more information about how water travels around our planet.

In Mathematics, we started a new chapter on timetables and time intervals, while continuing to review how to read the time accurately on both analogue and digital clocks. The students practiced real-life applications by reading and creating their own mini timetables.

A special highlight of the week was the Grade 5/6 assembly, where the older students performed a beautiful shadow play about "The story of energy and progress". It was not only entertaining but also deeply connected to our new Unit of Inquiry, sparking meaningful discussions about how humans use and share Earth’s limited resources.

Grade 3 had a thoughtful and inspiring start to their new unit, full of inquiry, reflection, and creativity. We can’t wait to continue exploring how we can all take action to share and care for our planet responsibly. 🌏
