Grade 3 – Our Week of Learning

This week in Grade 3 we explored, asked questions, and learned in many different ways.

In our UOI, we reviewed the digestive system. We drew and labeled it in our notebooks and wrote a short sentence for each part to show its job. We also started learning about the respiratory system. For our first inquiry, we did a small experiment: the students observed their breathing while sitting still, and then compared it to their breathing and heartbeat after jogging on the spot for 30 seconds. We discussed what changed and why. We also played a fun quiz game, watched a Dr. Binocs video, and learned new vocabulary about the respiratory system. To finish, students wrote their own story called “The Journey of the Air” and proudly read them aloud to the class.

A very special highlight this week was our first lesson with the VR headsets. The children were excited and engaged, and it gave them a new way to explore and understand their learning.

In Math, we practiced using number lines and counting forwards and backwards.
In English, we continued with the Ancient Egyptians. We read an interesting text and explored its structure. We looked closely at paragraphs, the headline, and the conclusion. In groups, students created and shared their own questions about the text.

We also celebrated Louis’ birthday 🎉. He surprised us with small wooden crafts for each classmate, and together we made a beautiful birthday calendar for our classroom.

Another important event this week was our earthquake and tsunami drill. The children practiced how to react in an emergency and showed responsibility and cooperation.

Throughout the week, Grade 3 showed they are inquirers by asking good questions, thinkers by making connections, and communicators by presenting their ideas to others.

It has been a busy, exciting, and meaningful week of learning in Grade 3!
