Grade 3 – Our Week of Learning and Celebration

This week in Grade 3 was full of action, inquiry, and reflection.

We began with a very special visit from a physiotherapist, who guided us through different exercises to strengthen our body awareness. From jumping to climbing and even trying out cartwheels, the children were active, engaged, and had a wonderful time. It was a great reminder of how movement helps us to be balanced and healthy learners.

In our Unit of Inquiry, we continued exploring the human body. The students showed they are inquirers and thinkers through many activities:

  • They completed an online quiz about the digestive and respiratory systems, supported by a video.

  • In a breathing experiment, they compared their breathing and heartbeat in three different trials: sitting quietly, after running, and back at rest.

  • We read the story Ruby the Red Blood Cell and drew Ruby’s journey through the circulatory system.

  • Each student wrote three sentences to explain how different organs work and support each other.

  • A worksheet helped us practice naming body parts and organs in the circulatory system.

  • Finally, we reviewed Ruby’s journey once more, reflecting on how systems in our body are connected.

In Maths, we started a new unit on time and timetables. The students are learning to read and tell the time on both digital and analogue clocks, and we are exploring the use of a.m. and p.m. as well as the difference between 12-hour and 24-hour clock notation.

In English, we continued our work with the Ancient Egyptians. The students organized information from a newspaper report, explored related words, and extended their vocabulary. This helped them become more confident communicators when discussing history and language.

We also had a wonderful moment of celebration. One of our classmates, Jin, recently took part in the Barça Academy Japan Cup 2025 in Nara. His team reached the final in the U9 category after three days of strong performances. The final ended 0–0 and was decided by penalties, with Jin’s team finishing as runners-up. Even though they narrowly lost 2–3, Jin shared that he gained so much from this valuable experience. We are all very proud of him, and he can be very proud of himself too. Congratulations, Jin! 🎉⚽
