  Taking Action and Leading with Confidence – Earthquake Learning in Action This week in Unit 4, How the World Works , our Grade 3 learners continued their inquiry into earthquakes with a strong focus on responsibility, preparedness, and taking meaningful action. We began by deepening our understanding of safe and unsafe actions during an earthquake . Through a sorting activity and reflective discussions, students analysed different behaviors and evaluated which actions reduce risk and which could increase danger. This helped them think critically and apply their knowledge to real-life situations. As part of developing their self-management skills, we practiced and reflected on safe behavior during an earthquake drill scenario, paying close attention to calm decision-making and awareness of our surroundings.   Grade 3 Weekly Blog – Learning How the World Works This week in Grade 3, we continued exploring our Unit of Inquiry “How the World Works” with a focus on earthquakes and how societies prepare for natural disasters . The students showed great curiosity, responsibility, and teamwork throughout our learning. Unit of Inquiry – Understanding Earthquakes We began by creating posters explaining how an earthquake happens . Students worked collaboratively to illustrate and describe the process, then confidently presented their findings to the class. It was wonderful to see them developing both their research and communication skills. Afterwards, we discussed the importance of being prepared. Together, we designed an emergency kit , with each student drawing and explaining why specific items are necessary in case of an earthquake.   Grade 3 Weekly Blog - Beginning Our New Unit: How the World Works This week, Grade 3 started an exciting new Unit of Inquiry: How the World Works . Our central idea is “Societies prepare for natural disasters.” The students showed great curiosity and engagement right from the beginning. Unit of Inquiry - Learning About Earthquakes To introduce the unit, the students listened to a story about an earthquake in Luma . After the read-aloud, they shared their thoughts, feelings, and ideas, and we collected questions and key points together as a class. This helped activate prior knowledge and encouraged thoughtful discussion. Following this, students worked in small research groups to explore the question: What happens during an earthquake? Each group researched the topic, created a poster, and then presented their findings to the class. The presentations showed strong teamwork, growing research skills, and clear communication.
