Grade 3 – Our First Adventures Together! This week in Grade 3 has been full of learning, creativity, and exciting experiences! We began by thinking about our hopes for Grade 3 . Each student wrote their ideas on post-its and shared them under three categories: This year in Grade 3 I hope to… I’m excited about… I’m a little nervous about… It was wonderful to see how thoughtful and honest the children were. Their ideas will guide us as we grow together as a learning community. In our first Unit of Inquiry, we jumped into our topic: Who we are - Our bodies are composed of complex systems that are connected. We started with a KWL chart – Our Bodies to organize our thinking. The students wrote what they already know and what they want to know . We will return to the last column, what I learned , once we complete our unit. The children also set up a Wonder Wall, where they could pin their questions about the body and its systems. ...

The first two days we have been busy getting to know each other and building a happy classroom community. We started the week with reading time. Everyone enjoyed choosing a book and finding a comfortable place to read. Then, we created our own “All About Me” pages. We wrote our names, ages, favorite colors, animals, and things we like to do. We also shared what we hope to learn this year. This was a great way to introduce ourselves and learn more about our classmates. Together, we talked about what makes a happy classroom. We discussed questions like: What helps us feel safe and happy in class? and What should we do if we disagree? From these ideas, we made our Class Agreement , inspired by the IB Learner Profiles. Everyone signed it to show that we are committed to working together kindly and respectfully. We also read a special story called The Name Jar .
